A Lower Body Warm Up

A proper lower body warm-up should not only get the blood flowing through the muscles, but it should also warm up the proprioceptors in the joints.

Proprioceptors are little sensors within a joint that gather information about joint movement and send it to the brain. Warming up these sensors is like having your morning cup of coffee. Just as the coffee helps get your brain going and lifts the morning fog, a warm up for the proprioceptors gets the brain- body connection ramped up and communicating clearly. With muscles, joints, and proprioceptors tuned up and ready to move, we decrease the opportunity for injury.

This sequence is not just a warm up for a workout! It can serve as part of a daily maintenance routine for ankles, knees, hips and lower back. It’s also a great preparation for other activities that use a lot of lower body such as gardening, hiking, biking, running, golfing, and paddle boarding… just to name a few.

Check out the short video below to guide you thru a warm up for ankles, knees, hips and lower back.
